Daily Truth - The All Surpassing Love of God

I woke up this morning with these thoughts of truth.

God’s love extends far, far beyond all human love.  God’s love truly knows no boundaries whatsoever and is never withdrawn.  While human love has limitations, God’s love does not.

Whether we like to admit it or not, our human love and affection are conditional and sometimes too easily withdrawn when we face particular circumstances.  Depending on the behavior of a person, we may choose whether to love them or withhold love.  Some people’s behavior even leads us to feel utter hatred towards them.  Unfortunately, we are faced with the same conundrum in regards to our human love towards God.  When God is behaving the way we want Him to behave, we are able to easily love Him and extend our praise and affection toward Him.  But when God is not doing things the way we prefer or is seemingly not giving answer to our requests, we may choose to withdraw our love and affection from Him.

God never, ever withdraws His love from us.  He will not and He cannot do so.  To do so, would be to completely go against who He is.  No matter the worst behavior a human being can partake in, God’s love is not withdrawn.  How can that be?

God sees beyond human behavior.  God sees way beyond the past or the present.  God sees a future that no human can see.  In a human being, God observes a vessel of His that is being molded and shaped by His hands and with His direction.  God knows that He will never, ever forsake the work of His hands and that He will carry this work unto a completion that no human can fully understand.

While human love and affection is most often conditional, God’s love knows no conditions.

God’s love surpasses all comprehension.

God’s love surpasses all behavior and all failures.

God’s love is truly boundless and endless.

God / Love is patient, is kind.
God / Love is not jealous.
God / Love is not bragging
God / Love is not puffed up.
God / Love is not indecent
God / Love is not self-seeking.
God / Love is not incensed.
God / Love is not taking account of evil.
God / Love is not rejoicing in injustice.
God / Love is rejoicing together with truth.
God / Love is forgiving all.
God / Love is believing all.
God / Love is expecting all.
God / Love is enduring all.

God’s love knows absolutely no conditions or limits as he forgives and endures all.

He does not hold grudges and is patient beyond our ability to understand patience.  No matter what we do or don’t do against Him, He loves and remains steadfast in His faithfulness toward us.

God’s love is all-surpassing.
God’s love surpasses all without any ifs, ands, or buts.

“For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor messengers, nor sovereignties, nor the present, nor what is impending, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus, our Lord.”  (Romans 8:38-39)

May you have the immeasurable blessing of feeling and knowing the truth of God's love today and every day.

"It takes only a moment to have the revelation that God is love, but it takes a lifetime to let go of other doctrines we've been taught/conditioned to believe that makes God out to be anything less than love.  We play theological gymnastics most of our lives, finding ways to justify God the half lover, God the almost lover, God the if you do, I do lover. God the it's not my fault lover, God the angry lover.  In the end, though it will take a lifetime, I think we'll all give up on the theological gymnastics game, and just accept the reality of God the way a child does: God is love. Fully. Always. Forever.”  (Mick Mooney)

  1. Just prior to his death, the author Trevanian wrote:

"I have learned that love is absolute and unquantifiable. The person who asks 'How much do you love me?' or the child who says 'You love my brother more than you love me' misapprehends the nature of love. It isn’t that each person possesses a finite quantity of love to be apportioned among those he loves. The love a man feels for his life-mate, or for one of his children, is not diminished by the love he feels for another of his children, or for a brother, or an old friend. It is as though there were a separate space in one’s heart for each beloved person, and that space is brim-full of love. When another child is born, a new pocket of love opens in the heart devoted fully and solely to that child. There is only one way to love…fully."

I have no idea what his beliefs were—he never mentioned God—but I found it interesting that his final thoughts were focused entirely on love. He went on to say that his vision for eternity only included love.

Whether people admit it or not, when everything else fails and is stripped away, love is their only hope and refuge. Fortunately for the world, God is love. His love is absolute and infinite, His love far exceeds our love, and He loves us all…fully.

    Wonderfully comforting.
